The Utilitarian

The Utilitarian is New Common's movement for conscious everyday dressing — brands building South Asian-influenced wardrobe staples that earn their place through use. This is not minimalism for its own sake. The Utilitarian is a design ethic: slow fashion, considered materials, pieces that improve with age rather than depreciate from the first wash. Brands in this movement tend toward natural fibres — organic cotton, linen, hemp, modal — with South Asian construction intelligence applied to Western silhouettes. A Utilitarian kurta-pant set reads as contemporary athleisure. A Utilitarian shirt uses a traditional white-on-white chikankari detail on an otherwise clean Oxford cut.
